Thousands of people have a problem with drugs and alcohol and are even two paths to follow. One path will lead to detox and to become clean and life a sober life, while the second path is to allow the drugs to beat them and eventually kill themselves by using. Many people go into detox each day because they want to live a normal, healthy life again.
The goal of drug detox to get the toxins accumulated from the drugs out of the body. The first step in the process of detox is withdrawal. Withdraw is just to stop using the substances and allow the body to do a mental readjustment that will allow a person to discontinue using. This is the hardest step. When a person goes through withdraw they will become terribly ill. They will begin to shake, not speak in full sentences; they will begin to feel jumpy and panic.
Most people going through withdraw are left in a room blocked off from other people, because it will make them want the drug so much that they will become violent and hurt others. The severity of the withdraw symptoms depend on the person and the drugs that were being abused. Many people go in to treatment centers for alcohol, pills, heroin, or cocaine. Depending on their own dependency for the drugs, withdrawal could be harder for others. The more a person uses and the longer a person uses, the harder the detox.
Drug detox is done in many different ways and a person can receive treatment in different ways. There are some treatments centers that will help you go through withdrawal by avoiding the physical withdrawal symptoms. Meaning, they will slowly try to get you off the drugs, by giving their patients replacement drugs.
Methadone clinics are a type of this. Other clinics allow a person to go through the detox and feel their struggles.
They will lock the person in a room, give them a bed, and allow them to sleep it off. They may even strap a person to a bed so that they cannot harm themselves. They do not give replacement drugs, but allow the toxins to leave the body naturally. Then they finish the treatment with series of therapy sessions. When choosing your way of detox, keep in mind that the withdrawal is the most important step. By going through the pain, can you ever come out on the other side with out the addiction? By choosing clinics that avoid the withdrawal, you will always have the cravings for the drugs, because you are not clean.
In addition, detox is not just hard for the addict, but their family as well. Family and close friends need to allow them to reach their own bottom and they need to allow them to go through the pain. It is hard to watch a loved one be in so much pain, but by letting them out early or supplying them just a little will set back their sobriety and they will never get clean. That is why most clinics do not allow you to see the person for their first two to four weeks of treatment.
