Life of a Commercial Photographer

Being a commercial photographer has its own advantages and disadvantages. When you are a commercial photographer, you start thinking less about your own creative urges and you think more about the people who are going to watch the picture for which you have taken the photograph. Although you still get to follow your choice of profession and passion, i.e. Photography, yet here you have a big difference from any other kind of photography. Here every click is meant for the target audience.

The biggest advantage for being a commercial photographer is that you follow a subject after your own heart, do lots and lots of research on photography and get into this work in a professional way. Plus you get to earn a lot. Commercial photography is a highly lucrative, well paid profession. If you are good in your work and happen to meet the right people or get the right projects, you can end up with a fortune.

On the other hand, there are some disadvantages as well. Your creativity gets limited. Although a commercial photographer has to think hard and long, be as creative as possible, but only this time, all the thinking gets canalised into wondering what the audience would like and what would attract them. How to grasp eyeballs in a glimpse and how can you make your pictures really striking. The whole point is, that as a commercial photographer, you no longer think for yourself, rather you think for and from the point of view of others.

As a commercial photographer, you get a brief from the client, which can be as long or short as the clients want. You work around the brief you get. If you are new to this field, you might not land big projects initially. Right now your work is under the scanner. However if you are good, then chances are you get to meet the right people and clinch the best of campaigns.
