Kitchen Floor Plans That Make Your Work Easier

There are many variations of kitchen floor plans. Some of them are more convenient than others. Some have more space while others are small enough that you can maneuver around them quickly. To find one that will make your work space do the job you want it to do, it helps to learn the basic types of kitchen design.
If you are building a small vacation home, or putting a small apartment in your garage, the floor plan that will work best , is the one-wall floor plan. This type of plan works best if you put the sink in the center with your appliances on each side. However, it is not very convenient to a cook who prepares many elaborate meals. Also, it is easy to get overwhelmed with people coming and going if there are doors at each end.
A More Convenient Work Triangle
Galley kitchens can be good kitchen designs for small rooms, especially if you close off one end. With galley kitchen floor plans, your kitchen extends down two opposing walls. This gives you the more convenient work triangle. Allowing four feet between opposite counter tops gives you room to work. A corridor kitchen is the same, only it has both ends open. This can be a problem when people walk through as you are trying to prepare a meal.
Ask Your Contractor
The U-shaped kitchen has a three-sided floor plan. It makes a dead end where no one will disturb you by walking though. You can have a work station on each of the three walls. The main work stations are the stove, the refrigerator, and the sink. You will also have work stations where you do chopping and mixing. You will have cabinets to store all your kitchen goods and food supplies on three walls.
You will have a generous amount of counter space. The only thing you need to remember is that you need a certain amount of room to make floor plans like this work. Ask your contractor if you have enough space.
L-Shaped Kitchens Can Be More Space-Saving
There are kitchen floor plans with an L-shaped design. They have one longer wall where two of the main workstations are located and a shorter wall where the third one is. This is not a floor plan for small kitchens. You need plenty of countertop on the long wall to make up for the lack of it on the short wall. It takes room to configure a room this way, but it is actually a more space-saving kitchen than the U-shaped kitchen.
The Island Kitchen For The Gourmet
The plan best suited for large gourmet kitchens is the island kitchen. The main reason for this is that the workstations would be too far apart if they were all located around the perimeter of a large room. The island kitchen gives a middle ground where workstations can be placed to keep the cook in a more centralized location. A variation is the peninsula kitchen where a counter juts from one wall forming a station similar to the island.
With all the kitchen floor plans to choose, it should be easy to find one that suits your circumstances. If none of the basic styles suits you, go to your local remodeling company or kitchen designer. There may be a solution that works even better for you.
