How To Go About Buying A Digital Camera

Keeping in mind that the image sensor and the lens are the two most important areas to look at when buying a digital camera, you can then look beyond them at other features as well. The features, of course, will depend on what kind of a photographer you are.
Are you the kind of person who just wants something functional to record important events, holiday memories and the occasional sunset? After which you put it all into the computer and send some of them to family and friends? Maybe all you would need is a simple aim-and-click 2-megapixel camera. You may not be able to do any kind of image adjustment or focusing but you probably wouldnt use those functions anyway. This is ideal for transferring onto the computer to send as email attachments or to view on the computer screen.
The range goes up from 3 to 5 megapixels where there is scope for adjustment and focusing. Beyond this are the expensive cameras for the serious photographers who are not quite in the professional league but want the flexible features these cameras offer. The prices of these cameras can be really high.
The higher the price range, the greater the choice of features. Some of them offer various settings like exposure, resolution or flash. These controls are operated through a menu system. If you would like this feature, make sure that the controls are easy to view and simple to follow. With the exposure settings, you can control the aperture and the light so you can adjust them to whatever kind of light there is outside. If youre the kind who prefers an automatic setting, you could do without these features. Most cameras today offer an LCD display except the cheapest ones which dont. This allows you to see your shot before you shoot and displays the picture after youve shot it.
Digital cameras also come with video and sound recording facilities. Some record for longer than others. It is a very small amount though if you were to compare it with a camcorder. Some cameras also come with software when you buy them. This is a good idea as otherwise image-editing software can cost quite a bit if you buy it separately. Always try and do a few test shots before you buy. This will allow you to get a feel of whether you like the camera, find the controls easy to view and use and whether you like the feel of it.
