How to Choose an Alarm System For Your Residence? | Home Security Systems

Now that you have just bought your house, your biggest investment, the next big question is: How do you protect this asset of yours? How can you sleep in peace at night, knowing that you and your loved ones are well protected.

An alarm system for your house will be able to provide the required protection.

The following are the questions that I normally ask my clients when they engage my services :

1. What do you expect the alarm system to achieve in terms of protection?

2. Do you want the alarm system to link to a 24 hour monitoring service provided by a vendor? Such monitoring service requires recurring monthly payment from you.

OR

3. Is calling some pre-programmed telephone numbers (e.g. your mobile telephone) sufficient for you? Unlike the 24 hour monitoring type, such alarm system will require just one time investment.

4. How many possible entrances are there in your house? This includes the front and back doors, full glass sliding windows.

5. Besides the normal entrances, how many other possible entry points are there in your house? This includes window panels, either movable or fixed.

6. Can anyone climb from your neighbour house into your house? This may happen at the 2nd or 3rd levels.

7. Where are the valuables kept in your house?

8. What are the usual activity areas and movement patterns : in the evening; at night before the family turns in. In the morning, who should disarm the system to avoid false alarm?

9. Are you already staying in the house? If the answer is yes, a wireless alarm system will likely be more appropriate, as minimum hacking & wiring are required.

10. If you are renovating your house now, you will have a choice of either wired or wireless alarm system. Typically the wireless systems are more expensive in terms of equipment, whereas cabling and labour cost is higher for wired system.

Think about the answers to the above questions. Then engage and seek the advise of a qualified security specialist and work with him to install a system that will best suit your needs at a reasonable cost.

For alarm system, never select a system just because it is cheaper. An unreliable system will often have false alarms, causing inconvenience and unhappiness among your neighbours.

With the right alarm system installed, you should have a peace of mind on the security of your house when no one is in. When you are at home, you and your loved ones will be able to sleep soundly.
