Five Ways to Make Money Using Your Digital Camera

Posted by admin at 07:57 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

It seems that everyone has a digital camera today. Gone are the days when a person would cart around a large, bulky camera, fill it with traditional film and then drop that film off at a processing center. From the time the pictures were taken, to when they were viewed, could be months, depending on when the roll of film was all used. Todays digital cameras allow the photographer to view the image they took instantly, changes can be made including the lighting and shading and the picture can be printed and ready for framing within minutes. If you really enjoy taking pictures why not parlay that into a little extra spending money. There are actually many easy ways to make money using your digital camera. You just need to find one that you enjoy doing and it proves profitable.

Five of the easiest ways to make money using your digital camera are:

Number 1: New Baby Pictures. Professional photographers often charge a fortune to take a set of new baby images. If you are comfortable working with infants, offer your services to new moms and dads in your city. A great tip to help you find new clientele is to look at the new birth announcements section of your local newspaper. If the family is listed in the white pages, give them a call.

Number 2: Holiday Card Portraits. Many families turn to a photographer to take an image that they can use on their holiday card. This is really one of the easiest ways to make money using your digital camera because all you need to do is have some inexpensive business cards printed that specify that you do house calls for holiday portraits. Families will love this as it means they can have the picture done in their very own home. Expect your client list to grow each year as word of mouth advertising spreads about your services.

Number 3: For Sale by Owner Pictures. Real estate is booming and many people are deciding to sell their homes on their own without the aid of a real estate agent. To do this they need to have a clear image of each room. You can offer to do this for minimal cost and even upload the images for them. Individuals who are selling their homes online will really appreciate the extra service you are providing.

Number 4: Kids Birthday Party Pictures. Most parents will tell you that a regret they often have is that they didnt get enough pictures during their childrens birthday parties. The main reason being that the parent of the birthday boy or girl has so much to juggle that the camera doesnt see the action it needs to. This is the truly one of the best ways to make money using your digital camera because you get to spend your time watching kids having fun.

Number 5: Travel Photos. If you travel quite a bit, pack your digital camera with you. Many websites are constantly on the look-out for quality images of travel destinations. Some sites prefer images taken by everyday tourists and if youve got a bunch of these already on your camera, upload them and look through them. Pay ranges vary for these but for someone always on the go, this can really supplement their income.

Obviously there are many more ways to make money using your digital camera and its advisable that each photographer focuses on what they find most interesting. If you consider yourself an amateur photo bug dont let this stop you from pursuing this as more than a hobby. With all the little tips and tricks you can do to change the look of the images you take, virtually everyone can take pictures that are worth more than a thousand words.

Three Advantages of Digital Photography Courses

Posted by admin at 00:07 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

When making that swap from your beloved SLR camera to a new state of the art digital camera you can find yourself like a child with a new toy and as confused as a Eskimo being asked to trade on the stock exchange for the first time. So here are three advantages of Digital Photography Courses.

Digital photography courses help you discover the features of your camera, when I first got my digital SLR camera I was very frustrated at the fact that the camera refused point blank to take a photograph if there was not quite enough light. Meaning I was unable to get the effect that I wanted. Of course taking my digital photography course I was able to work out that by changing a simple setting on the camera means I was not only able to take that photograph but have it come out much better than I could have hoped for.

The second advantage of digital photography courses is that you know that there are distinct differences between the way that your old SLR camera takes a photo and your shining new digital camera takes a photo. For example with your old camera you would line up take the photo and then have to wait until you have the film developed before you can see if the photograph is good or not. Digital photography courses show you how to use the features of the camera to view the photograph to see if what you have taken is going to be of any use when it comes to developing.

And that brings me to the third advantage of digital photography courses, having your pictures developed is something completely different to when you just removed the film and put the film into the developing shop in order to get your pictures back. Now you can choose your pictures and edit them if need be to get rid of that little bit of red eye or you want the photo in black and white instead of color.

These are just a few of the advantages that digital photography courses can bring you when it comes to making memories with your new digital camera.

The Importance of A Commercial Photographer

Posted by admin at 17:32 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

Advertisement involves serious money. And therefore one can not choose to remain complacent about any advertising campaign. Each element that goes into an advertisement, has to be meticulously planned and judiciously implemented. And this is particularly true with the kind of people you hire for various services that makes an advertisement.

Especially in case of the commercial photographer you choose for your project. The picture you wish to use in your advertisement plays a very critical and vital role. It is the face of your advertisement. The picture has the power to make or mar the first impression. A picture plays perhaps the most important role of attracting the attention of your potential customers. And it is only with the help of the picture that you can create the desired effect on your target audience.

Therefore, it becomes imperative to employ a thoroughly professional commercial photographer who would bring out the very image you have in mind, or perhaps better than that. A well skilled, dexterous photographer would understand your requirement completely and take pictures of the required model accordingly. Various things matter lights, positions, poses, angles at which the photographs are to be taken and many more such nuances. Though these may sound quite simple, but it takes a lot of creative thinking to create the right conditions in order to have the right effect on the photograph.

Experience matters! And it matters very much for a commercial photographer. An experienced photographer would know the various nitty gritties that goes into making a photograph a good one. Experience also prepares the photographer to expect various problems that one might face during the shot or after it. A knowledgeable commercial photographer would also know how to bring out the message with clarity from the pictures shot.

So you see, an efficient, experienced and professional commercial photographer is as important for your advertisement campaign, as is the campaign itself.

Digital vs Film Photography

Posted by admin at 17:47 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

I have been an avid Photographer in the UK for many years and always used film, black and white and Colour, and never thought I would be at all interested in the new digital age! However a friend of mine who has recently purchased a middle of the range compact camera convinced me to try it!

I have spent many a long hour in the darkroom, mixing chemicals and spilling (and staining !) stuff all over me . After a couple of hours I would emerge with one or two decent prints, which on the whole were OK. Although I enjoyed doing this it was very time consuming.

To cut it short, I was amazed at the ease of using digital cameras, and soon realized that any mistakes (ie exposure etc) could be repeated to create roughly what I wanted.

You might ask is this the real thing, too easy?

Well, in one sense it is, but having used the camera and realized that you can buy reasonable SLR\r Cameras which gives you total control over exposure etc, I think that you can exercise control and learn many thing quickly (and less expensive).

The cost of processing and film can be off putting to many people, and the wait time involved. If you have messed up, the moment is often unrepeatable.

As well as that, more kids at school are now doing photography because of the need for only a computer and a simple camera with very little cost involved and darkroom space. Surely this is a good thing ?

I am learning all the time about the digital format, and their are many good books you can buy.\r You can learn a lot about digital from friends and the through the internet, its fun to do, and again no mess.

On my surfing travels there is one site I bothered to look at and was tempted to purchase, http://www.mylearnphotography.com Its an Australian product which offers the whole range of digital know how, complete, detailed and user friendly. Its a great way to learn quickly and at your own pace and not expensive. I think it has taught me most of what I know!

The purists will stay with the old film format, and I will still dabble in it, especially black and white, but I tempt people to give it a go and open their eyes.

Photo Manipulation is a different matter, how far should we go!

What do people think ??

Use Of Infringing Rs-DVR System Enjoined

Posted by admin at 19:27 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

In March 2006, Cablevision Systems Corporation announced that it would be rolling out a new Remote-Storage Digital Video Recorder System (RS-DVR), intended for use by its customers who did not have a digital video recorder in their homes, and would permit these customers to record programs on central servers located at Cablevisions facilities and play the programs back for viewing at home.

Cablevision is the owner and operator of cable television systems, primarily in the New York City metropolitan area and provides a wide variety of programs to its customers.

Cablevision did not obtain permission from the copyright owners of the programs to be recorded, relying instead on the United States Supreme Court decision in Sony Corp. v. Universal City Studios, Inc. which permitted time-shifting through use of the now ubiquitous VCRs by the recording of television programs for in-home, personal viewing.

Cablevision was sued by various television networks, movie studios and other creators of copyrighted entertainment programs in the United States District Court in the Southern District of New York. In a decision dated March 22, 2007, the Court rejected Cablevisions contentions. This decision, although dealing with video content, applies equally to photography. \r The Court went to great lengths to describe the technical aspects of how content is transmitted in cable television and the DVR system. The gist of it is that many cable companies offer set-top storage DVRs, which combine the functions of a standard cable set-top box and a DVR. This permits recording of digital programming directly onto a hard drive contained in the box. This in turn permits time shifting in a manner similar to VCRs.

In this case, it was undisputed that the plaintiffs owned valid copyrights. Therefore, since Cablevision had previously agreed it would not assert a fair use defense, the only issue to be decided was whether Cablevision was copying plaintiffs copyrighted programs. The Court held that it was.

The Court determined that the RS-DVR system was not a stand-alone machine that sits on top of a television. Instead, it was a complex system that involves an ongoing relationship between Cablevision and its customers, payment of monthly fees by the customers with ownership of the equipment remaining with Cablevision, the use of numerous computer and other equipment located in Cablevisions private facilities, and the ongoing maintenance of the system on a 24 hour/7 day per week basis by Cablevision personnel.

The Court concluded that Cablevision, and not its customers, would be the party which copied the content and therefore the party engaged in unauthorized reproductions and transmissions of plaintiffs copyrighted programs.

Accordingly, the Court entered judgment permanently enjoining Cablevision from copying or engaging in public performances of plaintiffs copyrighted works in connection with the RS-DVR system without first obtaining valid licenses.

The Courts holding, recognizing the continuing advance of technology, did not hold the RS-DVR system to be illegal. It only enjoined use of copyrighted material used without a license. Accordingly, properly licensed material, or material in the public domain, would not be affected.

The holding of the case clearly extends to still photography, whether as part of video content, or as stand alone photographs. It is yet another instance of the courts properly extending the provisions of the Copyright Act to new and emerging technology in order to protect content providers.

Having your own wedding photo gallery is a great way to design a litany of your most precious memories. It is like a series of imagery that would run in your mind bringing you joy every time that you view them. Also you can share them with your friends and your beloved ones. You can even keep your photo gallery online on your personal webpages.

There are a number of ways you can prepare a photo gallery. First of all, it is preferable that you put them in a chronological order. And also choose the photos which have a unique streak that are captured in truly rare moments; such as a blissful expression of joy or genuine pleasant surprise on the face/s. Keep your eye open for the photographs with the special poses, angles and a range of distances that you had asked for. You can also seek the help of a professional photographer to help you arrange the photos the way they would look most appealing as if like a progressive frame of a beautiful movie. If you have the photographs in a digital format, well and good, because technology now gives you the choice of storing your photos as a soft copy which you can retrieve anytime at will.

Take care to introduce variety such as photos clicked in different moods and with your favourite people. It is always a nice idea to include some photographs clicked in natural light outdoors also. This brings freshness and a homely perspective to the wedding photo gallery.

In case you feel you require the services of a professional photographer, who can really make a treat of your wedding photo gallery–for you to forever cherish, as in a treasure of memories, you can go to the Internet. There are many websites that can help you out with the same.

What Everybody Ought to Know About Composition

Posted by admin at 04:47 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

As I have already mentioned in the previous post Build a Composition You Can Be Proud Of, composition creates a mood of a photograph and arouses certain emotions. It can be static and dynamic, it can direct attention towards the center of an image or vice versa take the eye away from it.

If you want to add dynamics to an image, you have to make the eye move along the image. If you want to create an illusion of a subject moving forwards, put it on an imaginable line that comes from the upper left corner to the lower right one (picture 1). Direction from the lower left corner to the upper right will create an illusion of a subject moving away. The latter also creates a perspective. \r Picture 1

2. Imagine a man coming up the mountains. Where would you place? Which is the best direction to show a movement upwards? If you put him on the line coming from the upper right corner, it will seem that he is coming downwards, wont it? On the contrary, if you will place him on the line coming from the lower right corner, we will create an illusion of him coming upwards (picture 1). But in any case it will mean movement.

3. Now lets look at picture 3. We notice a monitor first and then the eye moves and sees people, dont we? On picture 4, it is vice versa. Direction of peoples faces, arrangement of elements in a composition makes the eye move from one element to another in both cases, BUT in a former case the monitor is the main subject and in a latter case peoples faces.

Pictures 3 and 4.

4. Pictures 5 and 6 have the same subjects, which are directed to different sides. The subjects have the same places on both images. Although these two pictures have identical arrangement of figures, these figures have completely different directions, which strongly affects perception of images.

Pictures 4 and 5.

Practice

* Start practice with building a simple composition. Choose the most interesting for you geometrical shape (a simple one: a triangle, a circle, a rectangular). Try to put elements of composition so that the eye moves from one element to an other and thus form a chosen by you shape. Direct the eye using the information above. Try to force the viewer to observe objects in a certain order. Place the main object in a favorable point of an image.

* For more complicated composition, combine several different shapes. Every next time you will be able to use more and more complicated shapes and their combinations in order to direct the eye, where you want it to go. That will train your eye, which will help you in the future to choose focus and focus point.

Flash Photography - Avoiding Red Eye

Posted by admin at 02:27 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

Most photographers will experience this at some point. Red Eye is caused by light bouncing off the back of the eye and reflecting back into the camera lens. There are two conditions, working in conjunction, that lead to this.

Low light conditions cause the iris of the subjects eye to open up, and the on-camera flash is close to the lens which allows the light to bounce almost directly back from the eye into the camera. The problem is exacerbated by longer lenses because such lenses effectively reduce the distance between the flash the eyes and the lens.

Most modern cameras with built-in flashes or dedicated flash capability have red eye reduction features built in. These work in one of two ways. Some fire one or more small flash bursts before the shutter is triggered and the main flash burst is fired. Others use a solid beam of light. In both cases the goal is to get the subjects iris to contract so that less light is reflected back into the camera.

While the red eye reduction feature is quite effective on most modern cameras, it is not a guaranteed solution. To eliminate red eye in your photographs, you can use a few different methods.

The simplest is to have the subject look slightly away from the camera. While this is effective at addressing the problem of red eye, it often gives the subject a distracted look. In addition to that, a subject that is not used to being photographed may have difficulty not looking at the camera. There are also situations where you cannot direct the subject to look away from the camera.

You can also move in closer to the subject, if necessary using a slightly wider angle, although be careful of distortion! Moving in closer will increase the angle between the flash and the back of the eye.

Another method is to change the position of the flash in relation to the lens. You can move the flash away from the camera so that the light from the back of the eye does not readily reflect back into the camera. This also provides some modelling to the light. It also helps if you keep the room lighting as bright as is possible so your subjects eyes will close down, thus reducing the likelihood of reflections from the back of their eyes.

I find that the most effective way to deal with red eye is to bounce the flash off of a wall or ceiling. This also serves to soften the light and give it some direction, as discussed in the section on bounce flash. Having the light come from an entirely different direction virtually eliminates the chance of red eye occurring since the light cannot bounce off the back of the eye onto the film or CCD.
