Home Security Systems | Free Articles

It is an unfortunate fact that we live in an era which has the highest crime statistics ever. Because of this fact the home security business is a booming industry with just about everywhere being used to promote some form of burglar alarm system, or car security device and of course personal protection items, and no I am not just talking about guns.

They definitely play on your worse fears. Telling you how their security system is the best and most affordable and could save the life of you or your family. Even if you are single they still have a go, telling you how they can stop your pride and joy, your new car, from being stolen and chopped up into little bits for spar parts!

Unfortunately because of the world we live in these security systems are now becoming an almost invaluable item. The problem is you can not just get one device. After all your car alarm of disabler will not protect your brand new plasma screen TV in your house and the same can be said of the inability of your home security system being able to protect your car unless of course it is in the garage twenty four seven.

So if we just consider your home for a minute what kind of security do you need? So first is your burglar alarm which considering the intelligence of the modern day burglar is really more of a deterrent than actual cast iron safety. It is true to say that todays alarm technology is moving forward at a tremendous pace, with advances in wireless technology and infra red sensors. Unfortunately the same can be said of the modern day burglars technology too!

If you take a look at auto security the same thing can be seen there too. Todays car alarms, keyless entry and immobilizer technology are amazing. The trouble is that if a car thief knows what he is doing then all he has to do is buy the same technology and play with it till he figures a way to get past it or in the case of some remote alarms, turn it off!!

The way to treat your home and auto security is t make it as hard as possible for the thief or intruder to take what is yours. Think of it this way if your house or auto security is better and more high tech than that of your neighbours then who do you think the thieves are going to target? It may seem a bit selfish but what you need to remember is that if a burglar really wanted to get into your house or the car thief really wants your car then it is pretty impossible to stop them. Just make it as hard as possible and hopefully they will pass you by.

Closed-circuit television is a kind of a security technique which involves the usages of video camera which are commonly called CCTV cameras. The purposes of these are to transmit a signal to TV sets or monitors for the purpose of security. CCTV is a lot different than broadcast television. It differs in that the signal is not openly transmitted.

CCTV systems employ point to point wireless links, often used for surveillance. These Camera security systems are used in areas which need security. Some examples can be banks, casinos, airports, shopping malls or military installations, army bases etc. However, the increased use of CCTV in public places has caused debate over public. It is argued that this is a debate on security versus privacy. In many industries and industrial plants and semi-industrial plants, these cameras are used to observe parts of processes that are remote. The control is through a control room. Continuous operation of CCTV systems could be done. They can also be used to overview just a specific portion or an area. \r The first CCTV system was installed at Test Stand VII. It was in Peenemnde in the country of Germany in the year 1942.

These CCTV cameras were installed for observing the launch and take off of V2 rockets. CCTV systems are often used at launch. They are used at these sites to record the flight of the rockets. This is helpful in order to find the possible causes of malfunctions if any, happening during the launch. Film cameras are also used for this purpose. The more large rockets are often installed with camera systems. They allow pictures of stage separation to be transmitted back to earth by radio linkages. CCTV systems are also used to observe the launch pad, before the launch. This is none especially when no other person can be there, because of safety hazards and other safety reasons.\r The industrial process nowadays is mostly supervised by security cameras. There are some processes which are harmful for the humans but still take place. These cameras are mainly used in chemical industies. The other processes include the interior of reactors, facilities for manufacture of nuclear fuel etc. Use of Thermo graphic Cameras are used which permit operators to measure the temperature of the processes also.

The usage of of these systems in such processes is sometimes made mandatory by law.\r CCTV cameras are also used outside government offices and other special government facilities. CCTV systems are a very good means of increasing security in banks. CCTV today has developed to that point where it is very simple and inexpensive enough to be used as home security systems also.\r CCTV security systems are the next big thing on the general security scene, they have already overtaken all other means of security including spy cameras. CCTV cameras are and will continue to develop into the greatest security solutions available worldwide. CCTV security systems, CCTV security solutions would be buzz words in deciding about even security of small and very tiny enterprises. After all, with prices falling everyday, CCTV is much more affordable today than it was earlier.

Consider a very fearful situation. You have gone shopping leaving behind at home your kid and his nanny. The nanny gets a phone call and decides to go out of the house and talk, for some reason. Your kid follows her outside. Now no one is inside the house. The nanny and your kid are both outside. The door is then blown by a gust of wind and closes with a bang. No one likes the idea of risking property damage during a hurricane. In Florida or other hurricane zone states, however, it is something one must be prepared for. Being ready for the next Katrina, Rita, or Andrew isnt a pleasant thought, but it is vital to protect your Florida real estate, your family, and your investment when and if it were to happen to you.

Windows and Glass Doors

Protecting your windows and sliding glass doors is one of many things you can do in order to prepare for the storm. Many times, people rush out to buy plywood or tape at the last minute in order to seemingly do the right thing, but there is far more to do in case the hurricane hits. Tape will not protect your windows, and it is not enough to simply have the plywood. If you resort to using plywood to cover the windows, its best to use marine plywood; make sure you have the plywood cut and ready to fit before-hand, with screw holes in place before the storm. If your plywood does not securely fit over your windows or sliding glass doors, your efforts may simply be wasted. If air currents are able to slip past your plywood covers, then you may still get broken windows. If you do not wish to use plywood to cover your windows, investing in metal shutters is a better choice to help ride out the storm.

You might consider investing in impact-resistant glass for your windows. This option is pretty expensive, however, if you consider what happens if your windows get broken during a hurricane, the damage may be more costly than your investment in impact-resistant glass. When hurricane winds break windows, there are more issues at hand than broken glass flying throughout your home. The pressure caused by the winds through broken windows can be enough to remove your roof and send it hurtling into the sky, and the pressure can then cause the walls to collapse.

Have Supplies on Hand

Keep non-perishable food items, bottle water, batteries, and a first-aid kit available should you come into an emergency situation. Be prepared with blankets, extra clothing, and sturdy shoes should you have to ride out the storm in your home.

Buy a Generator

During a hurricane, many utility lines get damaged; electricity is sometimes the last utility to come back on. Having a generator on hand will be vital especially in times of need for cooking, cooling your home, and other daily activities.

Keep a Weather Radio Close

When a hurricane watch is posted, it will be in your best interest to keep on top of the weather news. Staying tuned to advisories may mean the difference between life and death in a time where you might need to evacuate the premises.

Keep Tools Handy

If you need a ladder to put those plywood window covers up, it will not be a good idea to have to run next door to the neighbors house to borrow one. If you are trying to screw your metal shutters closed, and do not have your screwdriver close at hand, running around search for one isnt going to help you save time.

Remove Dead Trees or Keep Trees Trimmed

Keeping possible hazards like weak tree limbs from damaging your home will be important during a hurricane. Many times, it is the flying debris during a storm that can do the most property damage. By removing these hazards, youll have a better chance at avoiding some costly repairs.

Be Prepared to Evacuate

If in the event you will have to evacuate your home during a hurricane, you will need to have a plan of action. Know where family members will be, how to get out of town when necessary and where to go, how early to leave (possibly avoiding traffic jams), and how to get in contact with each other should you become separated. If you have things you need on a daily basis, have a bag ready to go with these items. Make sure to include emergency information such as doctors contacts, medications and medication information, insurance policies, baby formula and diapers, or any other thing you may need in case of an emergency. Make sure small children know their home phone numbers and addresses, and can give vital information to relief workers or law enforcement officials, or are equipped with their parents contact information in other ways, such as on an id bracelet.

Having your Florida real estate prepared for the worst of the seasons storms can save you time, money, energy, and possible heartache during a time of emergency. Ultimately, planning for a disaster can help you avoid one entirely.

Home security alarms are devises designed to detect unlawful entry into your premises. There are many kinds of alarms, but broadly they can be categorized into two types, bell only alarms and monitored alarms.

Bell only alarms produce a high pitch siren when your home security has been breached. The purpose of this alarm is two fold. Firstly the loud siren is designed to act as a significant deterrent to the continuation of the criminal activity by informing the intruder that their breach of your home security has been detected. Usually the alarm is pitched to a high frequency making it uncomfortable for the intruder to remain on your premises.

Secondly, the purpose of the bell alarm is to inform anyone in the vicinity of the residence, including occupants and neighbors that the home security has been breached. While this is a good feature if you are home or have someone nearby who can respond to the security alert it is not so useful if you are away from your home.

In contrast, monitored alarms are alarms, which refer the home security breach to an off site, third party observer, usually an alarm monitoring company. There are two types of monitored alarms, bell alarms, which produce audible, high-pitched tones, and silent alarms, which are not heard by the intruder.

While the benefits of an audible bell alarm outlined above are obvious the advantages of a silent home security alarm are not. The purpose of the silent alarm is to fool the perpetrator of your home security breach into believing that they have not been detected, allowing the security company or local police authority to attend the scene and hopefully catch the criminal red handed.

Regardless of the type, both audible and silent, monitored home security alarms function in the same way. With monitored alarm systems, when your home security is breached an instant alarm activation is passed to a central monitoring station through your phone line alerting the security company of the problem. The security monitoring company will then dispatch a security guard to attend your premises to investigate the cause of the alarm.

Easy Ways to Increase the Security of Your Home

Posted by admin at 20:43 | Filed In Home Security Systems | Comments Off

While home security devices may be the most obvious way in which to protect your home from intruders, there are other improvements you can make and practices you can employ in order to keep criminals away.

First of all, make sure your doors are secure. Any loose doorknobs, hinges, or doorframes may be an invitation for a robbery. Secure these fixtures or purchase new ones. If necessary, purchase a new door preferably steel, with windows that cannot be broken in order to unlock the door from the inside. A door with windows, however, can still contain a deadbolt that locks from the interior with a key (instead of a turn-dial), and still be secure.

A storm or screen door may do little to prevent a break-in. You may want to invest in a wrought-iron or metal scrollwork door. While someone who really wants in still might find a way to get past the metal door, they will be deterred by the potential time it would take to do so.

Window locks should be in working order. It may be desirable to install bars on lower-level windows. In addition, windows should have the proper interior coverings blinds or curtains so that potential burglars are unable to see what is inside the home. Burglars are less likely to break into a home if they dont know what valuables are contained within.

Its a tried-and-true practice, but leave a light or two on while youre gone. If it looks like someone is home, most potential intruders will stay away. In addition, a Beware of Dog sign will deter many criminals even if you dont own a dog. The possibility of being bitten by an angry beast does not appeal to even those who would try to steal your valuables.

Keep money, jewelry, and other expensive items well-hidden or under lock-and-key in a safe. In the event of a break-in, you will suffer fewer damages than if your valuables were in plain site. Especially valuable items should be taken to a safety deposit box at a bank.

If you are worried about home security, there are many things you can do to make you and your home more secure. Using multiple thief-deterrent practices can increase safety and thwart break-ins before they start.

House Sitters

Even if you have an alarm system, house sitters are invaluable. If you leave your home to to on vacation, your best defense is having actual people in your home. The majority of burglaries in the United States happen during the day while people are at work. Criminals will take the easiest route. If people are in their targeted home, they will move on to a house that appears empty. The problem with traditional house sitting services is that they simply make one or two trips to your home a day to collect mail, open curtains, water plants, and throw off criminals. That still leaves about 23 hours in the day that your home is vulnerable to intrusion or fires.

The best house sitting option is to have people living in your home. If you have house sitter stay at your home full-time throughout the length of your vacation, you will worry less about burglaries, fires, and other problems such as coming back to a flooded home because of a broken hot water heater.

Having a house sitter also cuts down on preparation time and expenses before your vacation. You wont have to have your mail stopped (all a criminal has to do is watch your postal carrier skip your house to assume youre on vacation), buy and set light-timers, or even board the dog.

Dont have a friend or family member who can stay at your home? There are services available that match up people and live-in house sitters. Its as though someone is renting your house while youre on vacation, only they generally dont pay you rent. They will pay utilities, mow the lawn, take care of your mail, pets, and home while youre away. They will notify you of any problems. The services help you screen candidates and find the perfect person, couple, or family willing to take care of your home.

Author Ian White is founder of housecarers.com Housesitting Directory Find responsible House Sitters to Secure your Home and care for your Gardens and pets while you are away. You deserve a break from the responsibilites of home ownership.

Recently the crime rate has been going down in my area. They say it is because of better crime-fighting techniques and greater police presence, but that is only half of the story. Individual homeowners have also been a major part of the solution, mainly because they increased the security of their homes in recent years. On my block, it is a common sight to see security alarm stickers on the windows and surveillance cameras above the doors. By taking responsibility for their own home security, the people in my neighborhood have also made their community safer place to be. I am sure that if you take your own home security more seriously, and put in a home alarm system, you and your neighbors will reap great benefits.

You must face the fact that crime is prevalent in this day and age. You need to take steps to provide your home with better protection, to keep your family safe and your possessions secure. Of course, you can just get yourself a gun. That may be good for giving yourself a sense of security, but it may not be good enough. After all, you can only use a gun if someone is threatening to break into your home or has already entered and is endangering your life and property. But you should have a means of keeping criminals away from your home in the first place. You need something that can act as a deterrent to intruders–even when you are not at home to put up a fight.

You can get a guard dog for your house–that can be your deterrent. There are some disadvantages to having a dog, however. You have to take care of it constantly, feeding it, grooming it, taking it to the vet. The dog may attack those who are not intruders, such as the postman. And the dog may cause other problems–digging in your neighbors flower beds, tearing up the newspaper, barking incessantly at night. Getting a dog may not always be such a great idea.

A home security system has many advantages over having a dog and a gun. You can wire all of your homes entry points to an alarm and safeguard more areas than you can by your own self. The alarm system can watch over your house when you are all away or everyone is asleep during the night. It generally requires little maintenance on your part. In fact, many security systems are able to constantly check themselves to see if the system is running smoothly. Furthermore, your alarm system can be monitored at a distance by a security company, who can respond quickly should your alarm be activated.

Three Easy Steps To Keep Burglars Away

Posted by admin at 07:58 | Filed In Home Security Systems | Comments Off

Every home owner including, you should do some basic things to make sure they are not part of the FBI statistic that say five burglaries are committed every minute. Thats right. Five burglaries every minute and 300 burglaries every hour. It really is not that difficult to avoid being a statistic. Step one is to think like a professional burglar.

One thing that is safe to say about most professional burglars is: their main goal is to avoid getting caught. In order to do that, they minimize the odds by looking for easy, vulnerable targets.

Amateurs will sometimes smash and grab, stealing things from your garage or a car. Those are the ones that get caught much more often. They leave a mess out in the open and they sometimes make a lot of noise doing it. The professional on the other hand is the one you should be planning against. They apply more thought to their target and they are not playing for a small take. They are looking for an easy, larger take with minimal risk.

Step two says that as you assess your property; begin to think in layers of protection or roadblocks starting with the outside. The more layers or roadblocks you have in the way of a criminal, the more likely they will leave you alone, especially if the layers are obvious. The first thing to take note of is that a burglar likes to approach the house by stealth. Which is why, most burglaries take place during the night. Keeping the outside of your home well lit will help shift the odds in your favor. Take special notice concerning those corners and windowless sections of your house that lead to an entry point that is out of sight.

Consider the areas where you can trim back bushes from the house so that thieves have nothing to use to hide behind. A clearly visible perimeter around the house makes it less likely a thief will want to enter. Also, secure the areas where a burglar could enter unseen from the street, like a side garage door, sliding glass window or some kind of alcove. It depends on the floor plan of the house and how the neighbors houses are situated. The least you can do, aside from making sure all the locks work well is to add a strong wooden or metal dowel for sliding glass windows.

Step three is to consider a home security system. Depending on what a burglar thinks is in your house he wants, and who or what is nearby, there are some professionals who will take a chance and break glass to enter. A rather unsightly set of wrought iron bars in front of the window can be used, but the best course of action is a home security alarm system that senses vibration or breaks in the glass.

If at all possible, have a friend house sit for you when you go on vacation. Burglars are always more likely to steal something when no one is home.

The truth is nothing can stop a truly determined criminal, but with proper steps taken, they are definitely more likely to look for an easier target.

Infrared Night Vision Home Security Cameras

Posted by admin at 15:38 | Filed In Home Security Systems | Comments Off

For home security camera systems, Infrared night vision cameras are quickly becoming the most popular type of cameras. These cameras can be found in indoor or outdoor varieties, and can provide clear color video during the day, and black and white footage at night, even in no-light conditions.

There are several things to consider when you are selecting infrared night vision cameras. First, determine where the camera will be mounted. When placing an infrared camera, it is generally a good idea to ensure that there are no obstructions in between the camera and the primary area to be viewed. Infrared cameras are not able to view through glass, due to the fact that the infrared light will reflect back at the camera and wash out the picture. Also ensure that the camera is not directly viewing a mirror, which can reflect IR light back at the camera, washing the picture out as well. Next, you should take into consideration the distance between where the camera will be mounted and the primary viewing area.

For example, if a camera is being mounted on your front porch to watch people entering and leaving your home, then measure between where the camera will be located and the entryway of the door. This distance will be used in determining the correct IR range to select. Once you know the distance between your camera and the area to be viewed, select a camera that has about 2 times the range for IR night vision. The reason for the increase in night vision distance is several-fold. The IR night vision distance of IR Cameras is generally rated in indoor climate controlled conditions. Especially when placing the cameras outside, the actual distance will most likely decrease due to increased humidity, decreased temperature, etc.

While installing your camera, ensure that the camera and any exposed wiring is out of reach, this will help to prevent vandals from disabling or moving the camera. If you follow these guidelines for selection and installation of an Infrared Night Vision camera, then you should be able to provide excellent video quality for daytime and nighttime use and provide video to your VCR, Standalone DVR or PC-Based DVR for great home security viewing even in no-light conditions.

Home Surveillance With IP Cameras

Posted by admin at 09:58 | Filed In Home Security Systems | Comments Off

Are IP Cameras the best investment for your Home Surveillance?

If you heard already of IP Cameras, there is a chance that you consider if their use is what you need for your Home Surveillance. But then you should know when and why it is advisable to operate them and what may be their advantages and limitations.

An IP Camera is essentially a stand alone camera with a computer on a chip included. That means miniature onboard processors and web server software as needed for assuring complete operability.

The presence of such features provides the IP Camera with the capability to be connected directly to the Internet (the World Wide Web), to be made capable of transmitting the observed views, without having to route them through a dedicated personal computer.

A network or IP camera immediately digitizes the images so that the video stream is ready to be sent over any computer network available.

Then it becomes possible to observe full motion video, transmitted by such a camera, from anywhere in the world, around the block or around the globe, on a computer network

The whole gamut of selection is open to your choice as far as it involves the features of the camera itself. You know the elements of a camera and what it takes to satisfy your requirements. And if you dont remember exactly, you can easily search which of the features you would consider essential for a useful service.

It is affirmed that IP Cameras are enjoying increasingly large popularity and that there diffusion is expected to grow, at least in the coming years.

It is contended also that, with respect to older Surveillance solutions, they present certain advantages that should be considered by prospective users.

Among these one lists simpler and more economic cabling, improved scalability or the faculty of adding new single cameras at any moment without upsetting the system, universally recognized and accepted standards, capability of managing and recording from anywhere on the net, not necessarily near the source.

Furthermore equipment from many sources can be matched and mixed, no need to remain bound to a single supplier for the whole system, with better competition and better prices available. Motion detection triggering to initiate recording is almost a standard feature with IP Cameras, to save hours of viewing when nothing happens.

The most common limitation is the need to get help from a knowledgeable person for the first time connection to the Service provider, because of the specialized nature of communication technology that may be too hard to master for sporadic use.

In conclusion, although there are simpler and more recommended systems for do-it-yourself first applications, one should consider seriously network video cameras and IP cameras, as they and their systems are possibly the state of the art of this rapidly developing technology for Home Surveillance
