Businesses, Customers and Privacy | Customer Service Tools

Privacy is an issue that has been, and continues to be, very important for most people involved in business. Issues surrounding privacy became all the more debatable when the Internet came into the picture. Suddenly, people were doing business with those they had never laid their eyes on and not just that, these transactions were happening across the globe. There are so many questions and concerns when it comes to privacy issues that no singular solution is available for them all.

Of course, to say that everyone is very concerned about privacy would be too much of an exaggeration but it is safe to assume that most people involved in business prefer to keep information about themselves and their company clandestine as much as possible. And there are a number of reasons why business people would like to have confidentiality surrounding their business deals and information. One very obvious reason is competitors. One of the worst things for a business is to have a competitor get their hands on to the businesss personal information. Losing important information to competitors can potentially burn a big hole in a companys pocket and can be very demotivating for those working in the company.

However, even though privacy is a concern that many businesses have, it is not something that all companies agree on. For one thing, all companies do not give the same amount of importance to privacy issues. The kind of products and services they deal in can be a huge factor is how significant privacy is for a business.

At the same time, privacy and security issues do not have a natural home on an organization chart. This in itself suggests that this is almost an extra branch for an organization. Most organizations place the department dealing with security and privacy in any place that fits them best. This goes to say that most businesses do not view privacy and security issues as part of their strategic planning to reach organization goals but more like part of risk management in order to reduce costs and losses.

Even customers are not always in agreement about the significance of privacy issues when closing a deal. Some customers might be more pedantic about such things while others take a laissez-faire approach. It is very important that customers and businesses come to an agreement on privacy issues because misunderstandings and misdemeanors in this area can have huge repercussions.

Because there is no one way to deal with privacy issues, one thing that all companies can work towards is building trust amongst their clients. Once you prove that you are a firm worth trusting, clients would be more willing to make deals with you. Of course, the above is much easier said than done because trust is not something that can be built overnight. Building credibility is something that happens over a span of time and is something that should be dealt with caution and understanding.

As a businessperson you should be aware of the fact that word of mouth plays a big role in building your credibility. If a client had a good experience with you then there is a good chance that they will have a good word or two to say about you to someone else. That is, perhaps, one of the best things that can happen for a business.

Dealing with privacy issues is most definitely not easy especially because the whole thing can be so sensitive and subjective. Being aware of your clients stance on privacy is extremely important so that you know what is expected of you and you know that both parties are headed in the same direction.
