Alcohol Addiction - Coping With The Effects Of Withdrawal

Mousetrap Anger
Beware of the unknown traps you set in the name of recovery.
All to easily and all to often they will snap and kill the kindness of the one you love.
We unintentionally set these traps and unwittingly we set them off.
Anger can arise from no where, from something so trivial that even in hindsight we dont know where it came from; but yet there it is and so it happens.
Anger rears its ugly head as the death throws of addiction play themselves out within your body. Bottled up inside and ready to blow, it only take something small to set it off.
Like the mousetrap, anger will snap at anything small that crosses its path, springing into action as the poor victim attempts wrestle something from it.
So beware of the bait that sets these traps, recognise the anger for the impostor it is and dont allow it the satisfaction of the kill. When frustration starts to rise and all around seems to be crowding in on you, just step back in your mind and watch the situation play itself out. Anger feeds off your emotions, deprive it of that and it dies within a blink of an eye.
There will be times during your recovery when you will have to shut down your feelings and let the internal turmoil run its course, having the ability to do this will make your recovery so much easier. There will be a period of time when physically things will really get tough, its what we all go through, no exception; knowing how to handle this and having this ability to watch yourself as if from the outside in, will without doubt smooth out the path on your way into sobriety.
Falling into the anger trap is easily done, being able to avoid this takes only a little time to master. For your own sanity and for the love of those around you, learn to be the master of your own inner realm, to do so releases you from the guilt and remorse of unintentional outbursts and lessens the load of your emotional baggage.
