Protect Your Family: Home Fire Safety Tips

Posted by admin at 23:18 | Filed In Home Security Systems | Comments Off

Would you know exactly what to do if you were to find yourself in a burning building? Too many people dont, which is one of the causes of panics. Youd probably say that its a simple thing matter; exit the building, fast.

But there are situations involving fires when exit is no easy feat. Doors and windows can be blocked or locked. Knowing what to do in a fire and how to get out of the building is fundamental to making sure you exit safely. Remember the following safety tips, someday they may help save you or your familys life.

Alternative Exit Routes- One of the principal errors you can make is not knowing more than just a single way in and out of a building. When you enter a building, take note of more than one exit or entrance. Always know alternate exits to the location. Many times an exit becomes impassable or even locked during a fire. Elevators are usually put out of service automatically during a fire. If you dont know another route, you may become confused and blunder further into the burning structure. Especially in large buildings like hospitals, hotels, or schools, you should be familiar with as many exits as you can.

Escapes out the Window - If you happen to be trapped in a building and are forced to leave through the window, do so with care. Especially if you are on the second story or above, you will need help. Try to keep the door to the room closed, and pack wet towels, sheets, or clothes under the door gap to keep smoke out. Signal for help through an open window. Wait until the fire department gets there; they have the equipment and training to help you down to safety. A passerby or neighbor may also be able to help you quickly before the professionals arrive.

If your house has bedrooms on higher levels, consider installing fire ladders in your home. These are stowable drop-down ladders which attach to higher level windows. When the time comes, you toss them out of the window and climb down safely.

Keep a low Profile - When going through a burning building to the exit, always stay as low to the floor as possible. Because smoke and heat rises, there will be less smoke and more oxygen nearest the floor. Not only that, but there can be as much as a 1000 degree difference from the floor to the ceiling. Be traveling as quickly as possible while staying calm. Smoke inhalation is particularly dangerous and you can lose consciousness quickly as a result of it. To further help you breathe, cover your mouth and nose with a wet piece of clothing or towel.

Smoke Detectors Needless to say, but have properly functioning smoke detectors in your home. Test and replace batteries regularly. If you dont have smoke detectors, it is unlikely you will notice the smoke until it is too late.

How To Take The Best Baby Photos Possible!

Posted by admin at 22:57 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

Cmon now you need to agree with me that we all love to look at baby photos dont we? Dont we?

Well if its our baby we certainly do. But what do we need to do in order to take the best possible baby photos we can.

We might not be expert photographers, however if we follow a few simple tips we should be able to produce some very good quality baby photos without too much effort. So that when we look back into our photo albums or we show them off to our neighbors and friends we will be proud of our efforts.

When I first began taking photos over twenty five years ago digital cameras were not an option. Film was quite expensive and so you took your baby photos or any other photo for that matter sparingly.

Today it is my recommendation that you go out and buy a mid priced digital camera. You can click away as much as you like without having to worry about the cost. What you do is transfer them all to your computer and then you can sort them at your leisure.

Just delete the ones you dont want and keep the ones you do. You can buy a reasonably priced Color Printer and even print your pictures yourself or you can send them to a Commercial Printer over the internet. Or just take your memory card to your local printer.

Just remember when you are choosing your camera try to get a decent sized additional memory card to go with it. Standard memory cards wont take too many baby photos at a large pixel count.

Buy a couple of extra batteries so you dont get caught out when your batteries fail. Better still I would actually suggest you buy a camera with a rechargeable battery. Normally they last a day or two at constant use then need to be recharged. Or you can even buy a spare re-chargeable battery to use while you are charging the other one.

I always take my camera with me when I go out. So I am always at the ready to take the unexpected baby photos at a moments notice.

Try to take shots from as many different angles as possible. I am of the opinion that you dont really know how good a shot is going to look until you have taken it and can see it either printed or on the computer. Remember its a digital camera so take lots and lots of shots because you are not going to keep them all only the ones that you like.

Always try to take your shots with the sun behind you (if your outside of course) I like to take most of my shots in natural light rather than flash as I think that they look so much better with natural light.

And there you have it. Keep shooting and use these tips and you will soon have a great collection of your baby photos.

Sometimes, no matter what you do on your own you just cant find a way to boost your self-esteem on your own. If you find that your negative thoughts about yourself are starting to influence the way you see yourself and your life, it may be time to seek professional help.

Counseling/Personal Therapy:
Counselors and therapists have been specifically trained to help people see their life circumstances more clearly. Sometimes, just talking with someone who doesnt know you can help clear your mind and emotions and help you see yourself in a new light.

Professional therapists are also trained to look for the underlying reasons for your self esteem issues to help you better understand why you express this negativity toward yourself, and give you practical ways to help you overcome it and once again find the courage and belief in yourself to acknowledge all of the wonderful attributes you do have.

Hypnosis:
Hypnotherapy relies on making words and suggestions to patients while they are under a deep trance-like sleep state. The suggestions made during hypnosis are used to trigger the nervous system and body to jump-start its natural healing processes to help alleviate troublesome physical and emotional upheaval. Its a wonderful way to help reprogram your negative thoughts about yourself into more positive reminders about all of your best qualities.

Self Help Seminars/Tapes & Books:
For many people, boosting their self-esteem only requires relearning how to think about themselves in a more positive light. This can often be done by listening to self-improvement tapes, reading books designed to show you how you may be unintentionally sabotaging your own self esteem or listening to a life coach or motivational speaker for an afternoon seminar.

While this option usually does not help someone with severe self esteem issues, it ca help the low-grade sufferer find their way out of the dark trials of life and find their voice again.

Medical Tests & Treatments:
In some cases, the sudden onset of low self-esteem has less to do with an emotional or mental issue, and more to do with some physical problem you may not even be aware of. While it is true that many self-esteem problems arise during or shortly after a traumatic event or sudden life change, sometimes it can be a result of an undiagnosed illness; changes in maintenance medications or sharp fluctuations in your hormone levels.

Before beginning any type of treatment for your self esteem issues, be sure to get a complete physical examination to rule out a physical cause for it.

As you can see, there are a few options for people who need help regaining their self-esteem. Choose what works best for you and see how much better you can feel about yourself and your life.

In an attempt to quell drug addiction and abuse problems across the U.S., the federal government enacted the Combat Meth Act of 2005. This Act cuts directly across the availability of the raw ingredients needed to make methamphetamine, an illegal schedule II stimulant with a high potential for addiction and abuse. You will now find cold and cough medicines and other previously over-the-counter drugs containing pseudoephedrine locked in cabinets or kept behind the pharmacy counter. ID and signature are required for each purchase. Regardless of the law, meth use doesnt seem to be slowing down, and California drug rehab programs are needed more than ever to handle meth addiction.

How are drug addicts and dealers responding to the new law? You would think youd see a rise in drug rehab admissions, but the statistic thats gone up is pharmacy thefts. California has recently seen a number of pharmacy robberies where, in addition to prescription drugs being stolen, the assailants also cleaned out the pseudoephedrine-containing cough and cold medicine. Pharmacies in Pico Rivera, Fullerton, La Mirada, Whittier and Anaheim all experienced break-ins just last month.

In addition, a further twist has now found its way into the manufacturing of methamphetamine candy-flavored meth. Though police labs dont generally test for flavor, colored meth has been found in Nevada, California, Texas and other states.

With meth already identified by the DEA as Californias primary drug threat, this new attempt at popularizing it by appealing to a younger crowd and making it more palatable is not being taken lightly: U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif) introduced legislation to increase penalties for drug dealers who are seeking to entice children with candy-flavored drugs.

Any way you slice it, the epidemic of drug addiction continues to plague the state of California and the nation as a whole. Only through education and a successful drug rehab program do we have any hope of vanquishing this problem outright.

In the daily battle of conducting business and serving your customers, it is often the customer service staff that acts as the front line. They are the ones dealing with customers on a daily basis. From taking orders to solving problems or providing information, these dedicated professionals are responsible for leaving clients with a high level of satisfaction so they keep coming back.

National Customer Service Week, is the time most companies and organizations choose to honor these key team members. This is the time to put a smile on the faces of your staff members so they will in turn spread their optimism and goodwill to the customers who mean everything to your company or organization.

Kick off Customer Service Week with a breakfast. Service bagels, juice and coffee in custom imprinted mugs that feature your company logo and some words of appreciation. Have key members of your company make a speech or presentation to let everyone in your company know the value of good customer service.

Have a recognition awards ceremony to reward employees for years of service, a job well done or a testimonial from a customer. Serve ice cream, cake or cookies to make the event even sweeter.

When choosing gifts or recognition items, there are hundreds of items to choose from. Employees can show their pride by wearing lapel pins, t-shirts, hats or jackets. Casual wear with your company logo is alway popular. Food gifts such as custom or stock designed candies make for a fun and festive event. And lunch bags, drink ware and totes with your personalization are always used and appreciated.

So remember to honor the true soldiers of your company who put themselves on the line for your success - your customer service staff.

Make an Effective Sore Throat Cure with Simple Herbs

Posted by admin at 16:29 | Filed In Home Healthcare | Comments Off

There are a variety of ways to cure a sore throat. One of the best ways is through herbal remedies. There is no need to use over the counter medications that just mask symptoms, discover how you can truly heal your sore throat. This article is going to discuss several great options you can use as an effective sore throat cure.

Wintergreen is more than just a brand name for gum; it is actually an herb that works as a natural form of aspirin. Wintergreen works as a fantastic gargle to relieve your sore throat symptoms. You can make the gargle by adding 20 leaves in a cup of boiling water. It has a nice cooling action on the throat when used. Make sure not to use this home remedy on children, as they should not have anything that resembles aspirin.

Eucalyptus tea also works wonders as a sore throat cure. The oil has a soothing and cooling action on the throat and the tannins found in the herb act as an astringent. You can buy the Eucalyptus tea pre-made or you can make it yourself by boiling a cup of water with a couple teaspoons of the crushed leaves.

Honeysuckle is highly recognized in china for its power as a sore throat cure. Honeysuckle works extremely well at treating not only sore throats, but also tonsillitis, colds, bronchitis, the flu and pneumonia.

Slippery Elm is like having your own natural throat lozenge. It coats the throat and helps to keep the scratchiness away. Slipper Elm also has antiseptic properties and also works well for people who are sick due to allergies.

Balloonflower works very well as a cure for both a sore throat and a cough. Balloonflower is a natural alternative to cough medicine as it works just as well and it is also a natural expectorant. No need for over the counter medications when you are using this home remedy.

Garlic is another great choice for treating your sore throat. It helps fight off viruses and bacteria from the body enabling it to treat both colds and strep throat.

Addiction and substance abuse is undermining the very moral fabric and future of America today. In 1995 it was estimated that the cost of alcohol and other drugs reached a staggering figure of 276 billion, not including the pain and suffering of loved ones and friends. Alcoholics have an estimated decrease in life expectancy of 10-15 years, with alcohol the most frequently used and abused intoxicant and involved in 40% of all fatal motor vehicle accidents (1 and 2).

Although not illegal, nicotine accounts for approximately 25 million people addicted and is the cause of 430,000 tobacco related deaths per year.

The most commonly abused opiates are, heroin and methadone. It has been estimated by the National Institute of Drug Abuse that approximately 2.5 million Americans have a history of heroin abuse (3).

Stimulants such as cocaine are widespread as well in America and it is estimated 72 million Americans have tried or are using or cocaine (3).

Methamphetamine is growing at an unstoppable rate due to the ease of making the drug, and is now competing with cocaine as a drug of choice.

Although there are numerous examples of addictive drugs in America they all show similar symptoms and qualities of craving and withdrawal conditions. The individuals at greatest risk are genetically predisposed through a neurochemical pathway that alters the minds perception of pleasure and reward. Kenneth Blum, coined the term, Reward Deficiency Syndrome, to relate to the neurotransmitter deficit that occurs due to use of drugs and alcohol. Although the pathways may vary, depending on the abused substance, they all show a common final neurochemical pathway in their expression of euphoria when abundant, and craving when deficient.

The important Amino-peptide neurotransmitters to date are serotonin, dopamine, GABA and the enkephalins. Dopamine specifically is the neurotransmitter of pleasure. When dopamine is in abundance, it provides a state of well-being. Although this research will focus on alcohol, there are many other substances that can alter the increase in dopamine resulting in pleasure. Other altering scenarios can be glucose, impulsive/compulsive disorders, gambling and risk-taking activities, opiates, cocaine and cigarettes.

When the brain is supplied with a substance a momentary spike in neurotransmitter activity of dopamine occurs. The body then reacts to down regulate this excessive increase by down regulating the neurotransmitter sites of production or receptor sites, or by increasing the breakdown of neurotransmitters. Because of this, the brain develops tolerance and the need for more of the drug to prevent a state of withdrawal.

The point at which addiction can occur is variable and based on the individuals genes. Recently, the dopamine D2 receptor called the A1allele, has been known to be a greater prevalence for alcoholics, opiate or cocaine addicts.

This pleasure and reward system was discovered, by accident, in 1954 by James Otis. By mistake, Otis placed electrodes in the Para limbic system of rats. In doing so, Otis observed he could elicit a pleasure response. This response caused the rats to continuously press a lever, causing an electrical stimulation to this area even to the point of starvation. It was later noted that an increase in dopamine was being released in regions of the limbic system, specifically the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.

Recently, a pharmacological approach to alter these neurotransmitters and help people with reward deficiency syndrome has been found. Studies by Brown and Blum indicate that certain amino acid precursors can relieve cravings and reduce incidents of a relapse. Oral formulas have been formulated and produced with these amino acids, vitamins and minerals cofactors. Recently an intravenous pharmacological approach utilizing amino acid neurotransmitter precursors have shown to have an immediate and profound effect on craving reduction and withdrawals in 86% of the patients with no side effects noted by this researcher or by Excel treatment facility during the last two years. The intravenous amino acids, vitamins, and mineral therapy appears to augment the dopamine and serotonin levels while the body begins to return to better handling oral nutrients and neurotransmitter homeostasis.

This study has been implemented to determine the efficacy of intravenous amino acids to reduce withdrawal and craving from substance abuse.

Methodology

Nine subjects were picked from phone in volunteers from a local Denver newspaper add (Exhibit 1).

Inclusion into the study are individuals who are between the ages of 18 and 50 years old, in good health, not court ordered and who desire to stop their substance abuse, but to date, are unable to do so. Methadone or a history of psychiatric hospitalize subjects are excluded from this study. All subjects will undergo a history and physical exam and a doctor will be present at all times. Initials will be used for publishing purposes only and strict confidentiality will be observed of all subjects.

The treatment subjects will undergo 10 sessions (Monday thru Friday) of a multi amino acid, vitamin and mineral solution in a 250cc NS bag group or a placebo group of Vitamins (B2, B12 and Folate) in a 250cc NS bag with matching color and volume. All subjects will undergo drug testing for their addiction including random breath and/or urine drug tests.

If you smoke, you will be asked to keep track of the number of cigarettes smoked daily.
To be entered into the research group each individual must meet the requirement of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders TR (DSM-IV TR) for an Axis-I drug dependence.

Axis-I 303.90 Alcohol Dependence
Axis-I 304.40 Amphetamine Dependence Including Methamphetamine
Axis-I 304.30 Cannabis Dependence
Axis-I 304.20 Cocaine Dependence
Axis-I 305.10 Nicotine Dependence
Axis-I 304.00 Opioid Dependence
Axis-I 304.90 Polysubstance-related Disorder

Other axis-I substance dependence disorders will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The research subjects will be placed randomly into two equal groups A and B.

The control-or placebo-group will receive an intravenous solution of 250 cc of a normal saline bag with B2, B12 and folate to give the distinctive color to the bags.

The experimental group will be given an intravenous solution consisting of a patented formula titled TGGRS Treatment (Third Generation Genetic Repair System). The Tigers Treatment consists of multi amino acids, vitamins and mineral solution drip over a 1 & 2-hour period for 10 sessions. All subjects will be randomly be monitored by blowing a B.A.C. or urine drug tests. A questionnaire will also be required to rate their craving and anxiety symptoms each session. Specific cravings will be rated from a zero (0)-indicating no craving or withdrawal, to a ten (10)-indicating maximum craving or withdrawal symptoms.

The intravenous bags will be marked Group A and Group B and will be made by a local compounding pharmacist. He will have no contact with the subjects. Heart rate, blood pressure and level of subject mental status will be conducted before each session. During the study, all subjects will be asked to eliminate or cut back on their alcohol or drug consumption but at any time may voluntary return to their pre-study consumption level, or be asked to by the doctor, if sever withdrawal symptoms occur. Failure to participate in 90% of the study will be grounds for dismissal. The people involved in administering the I.V. and monitoring the people will not know which bags contain the amino acids and which contain the placebo. At the end of 10-days the pharmacists will expose which group was the experimental group and which group was the placebo group-A or B, respectively. At that time the experimental and the placebo groups will undergo a daily debriefing and questionnaire rating their withdrawal symptom success and anti-craving level.

At the end of 10 sessions, the treatment group will be given 5 additional treatments of the same solution with D-phenylalanine added. Afterwards, the placebo group will get the treatment solution for 5 sessions followed by 5 session with D-phenylalanine added. All subjects at the end of their intravenous sessions will be debriefed and given the opportunity to take a one months worth of a similar oral based formula for maintenance efficacy.

Results

To stay sober, the war on addiction has many battlefronts to concour from dealing with initial withdrawals and craving to handling family and friend enablers, denial, stress, temptation and faith that we can overcome the disease that seals the heart, soul and life of mankind.

From Jan 21 until Feb 17th nine volunteers under took a major step to sobriety by introducing nutrition building blocks of neurotransmitters by intravenous means to battle withdrawal and cravings aspects. Only one individual had no response to our amino acids vitamin and mineral cocktail and continue daily drinking with no perceived change in anxiety and craving. All others expressed a significant response from moderate to profound anti-craving benefits by the end of the study.

The A group (RH, RY, KM, RA) received vitamins for the first 10 sessions, and although noticed a slight reduction in craving and anxiety, RY, KM, KA continued to drink. RH had marijuana addiction problems and throughout the study he did not use. The B group (RM, DR, RD, DB, JD) received the therapeutic formula less the D isomer of phenylalanine. They all continued drinking and showed no significant change in craving and anxiety. The A group noticed no significant change as well to 5 days of the therapeutic formula minus the D isomer. It wasnt until the last 5 days in both groups that a significant response in drinking reduction in sobriety along with cravings and anxiety reduction occurring.

The D isomer of phenylalanine appears to be a crucial component in withdrawal and craving issues. Addition to alcohol and drugs is caused by an imbalance or defiency of neurotransmitter activity in a cascade mode. Per Dr Blum serotonin releases enkephalin in the hypothalamus and enkephalin inhibits the release of GABA in the substantia nigra. The inhibition of GABA permits the release of dopamine in both the nucleus accumbens and the hippocampus.

Apparently up regulation of serotonin by tryptofan is not enough to release sufficient enkephalins to have an impact on up regulating dopamine despite direct stimulation of L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine on increased dopamine production. The D form of phenylalanine, which inhibits enkephalin, appears paramount in the cascade theory and therefore causing substantial anxiety and craving reduction. Enkephlins are natures natural painkillers and a reduction in pain appears critical to suppressing withdrawal and craving symptoms as well as balancing neurotransmitters. This study supports the 86% recovery rate in retrospective review of the current intravenous amino acid (TGGRS solution) being conducted at Excel treatment and recovery program. However, future clinical trials with genetic testing and greater numbers coupled with a variety of addictions would better support statistical efficacy of intravenous amino acid supplementation. In addition, why 10 to 15 percent of the population fail this program possibly could be cause from a yet unknown genetic pathway of metabolism with nationality possibly playing a role in this failure rate.

Conclusion

The TGGRS intravenous amino acid program in its current formula had statistical efficacy in nine patients ability to handle their craving and anxiety perception and their ability to withdraw from alcohol. The D-phenylalanine isomer appears to be an essential ingredient to this formula. Together with education and counselling and nutrition, intravenous amino acid supplementation will prove to be a powerful tool in initially combating the evil grasp of addiction in todays society.

What Will People Say?

Posted by admin at 15:48 | Filed In Build Self Esteem | Comments Off

Do you sometimes wonder why you (sometimes) allow people to influence your lifes choices (your decisions), your actions, directions, the way you talk, walk, the people you relate to, even sometimes, what or how you eat or drink? Well, its a perfectly normal phenomenon. We all, inadvertently, respond (positively or negatively), to the people who have greater influence over us in the need for acceptance. Sometimes, we dont even realise it.

A while ago, I overheard someone talking to her friend in a restaurant. Lets assume the lady is called Maria and her friend is Cynthia. Maria narrated how her late husbands friend had asked her hand in marriage. Cynthia was very excited, and was curious to know her friends reply. Maria, of course, was shocked at her friends reaction, wondering if Cynthia (or indeed the man in question) had been wishing for her husbands death. Maria, in a sombre voice, said she asked him what will people say? to which Cynthia, still very elated, quickly replied who cares what people say? Maria replied I do.

Lots of times when we find ourselves asking the question what will people say? its most likely because we automatically conclude that we are doing something wrong. Sometimes we are, and the conscience is the best judge. Lots of times, however, we yield to the pressure and the need to be accepted, even at the expense of our own happiness. We all have basic knowledge of right and wrong. Oh yes, if you pinch someone, chances are that they will hurt. And if you pinch hard enough, it will probably bleed, and they might cry, bruised physically and emotionally.

Peer pressure, according to Karen Dockrey, is more than a direct invitation to do wrong. It is that uneasy feeling you get when you wear jeans to a party when everyone else is in elaborate gown or tuxedos. Its an uncomfortable pressure that people of all ages face the feeling that in order to (not just) be accepted, but also to be liked, we have to be like others. Karen goes on to say Peer pressure is the subtle, usually silent motivator that says, when Im around this person or this group, I need to act or look in a certain way. We feel the pressure because we feel that in order to be accepted (or liked), we need to do what someone says, or behave in certain acceptable ways. Even when our brain tells us that our actions are not logical, our overbearing emotions instruct us otherwise.

Maria had a need, which her friend recognised, but which she was prepared to sacrifice for the sake of societal acceptance. Sadly, many people fall into this category, choosing to satisfy the dictates of peer pressure at the detriment of their ultimate happiness. They then live very sad lives, losing their self confidence, self worth, and the very friends they wanted to impress in the first place, and eventually die sad and sorry deaths. The question is who cares? The fact is that the main pressure is from within, and inner pressure is often stronger than the outward peer pressure. If someone says here, have a beer, and you dont want it, you simply say no thanks. No-one can force you to drink what (or, if) you dont want to. But the only person you talk to about inner conflict is yourself, and this can be a very lonely, confusing struggle. (Karen)

To deal with this loneliness, you need to be brutally honest with yourself. First, admit that you have a dire need to be accepted, which affects your actions, and that its hard to think for yourself or to make your own decisions. Then stop struggling alone. The church teaches that the Master went through lots of peer pressure which was handled appropriately, so church (and non-church) people can talk to church pastors, who will be able to pray with them, and take them through various steps to self-esteem. It is also important to find friends of positive influence. If you find yourself surrounded only by friends who get drunk and disorderly every weekend, you need to change your friends. They certainly cannot help you. You need friends you can talk to about your inner struggle. Develop healthy relationships with people who can encourage you to live better, do better, and be better.

Listen more, and dont agree with other peoples comments at face-value, they may also be trying to impress. Repeat to yourself daily being like others is no guarantee theyll like or accept me. Change is constant. According to Karen, what your friends like or accept today will certainly change tomorrow. You can get dizzy trying to keep up. If more people would just be themselves, the pressure to impress would lose its trend, slowly, but surely. And to be honest, who cares what people say. You are a person worth knowing and enjoying. So just be yourself. Youre best that way.

If you want to give your kitchen a much-needed facelift without calling in a team of design professionals and taking on a budget breaking project, a great place to begin is with your kitchen racks. Your kitchen almira are the single largest feature of your kitchen dcor, and painting kitchen cabinets can be one of the simplest ways to make your kitchen look like an entirely new room. The best thing about painting kitchen cabinets is that if you are careful, you can do a professional looking job without ever consulting a professional.

Preparing To Paint

The proper way to begin painting cabinets is to remove their doors, and if at all possible, take the cabinets off the walls. You will have to put the cabinet hardware–their hinges, knobs or drawer pulls, and screws, aside in a safe place; using a separate baggie for the hardware from each cabinet, labeled so you know where it came from, is a foolproof way to keep track of all the separate pieces.

Once you have removed the cabinet doors and/or the cabinets themselves, the next step to successful painting your cabinets is to remove them to a well ventilated area and place them on a drop cloth, tarp, or several layers of newspaper.

Sand Before Painting

If your kitchen cabinets have been finished with varnish or polyurethane, you will have to sand them down in order to create a surface to which you new paint will adhere. The same applies if they have been painted with an oil-based paint and you want to repaint them with acrylic paint. Use medium grade sandpaper to start and finish them with fine sandpaper. Use a tacky cloth in between each sanding session to remove the old finish, and never sand without using safety glasses and a face mask.

You will be able to start painting your kitchen racks when the old varnish or paint is removed, and the amount of paint you need will depend on the sort of finish you want. A matte finish will require less paint than semi-gloss or high gloss paint. And you are always better off using an acrylic, or latex paint, simply because of the ease of cleanup.

One tip for painting cabinets is to follow the direction of the wood grain when you are applying your paint. Otherwise your brush strokes will be much more noticeable.

Drying and Reassembling

Let your kitchen cabinet doors dry between coats in a ventilated and dust-free area, and keep them away from the sun if possible, so that their color remains unaffected. While they are drying, you can return to the kitchen and begin work on the cabinet exteriors and frames. Just remember to keep the kitchen doors and windows open.

When both your kitchen cabinet doors and exteriors are dry, you can attach the doors with the hinges and add the handles, drawer pulls, and knobs. If you want to finish the job of painting your kitchen cabinets with a completely different look, you can even add new hardware!

Infrared Photography Digital Cameras

Posted by admin at 13:22 | Filed In Photography | Comments Off

If you have ever experimented with photography and especially infrared photography you know that not to many years ago this was quite a hassle. Not only would you need special films that needed the correct handling but you would also have the trouble of black and white processing and the inability to evaluate your result until you had used of the whole roll of film and you had the pictures printed. What a waste of time and money.

Luckily this is now all changed due to the invention of the digital camera and thereby the ability to take a digital photography. Now you are able to take digital infrared photos whenever and where ever you please. These can even be mixed with normal photos and by looking at the LCD screen on the camera you are able to instantly see the result and adjust your settings to get the picture just right.

The result of your infrared pictures will naturally depend on how your camera sensor array reacts to the infrared and secondly it will depend on the filter you are using and how it reacts to the far end of the visible spectrum

Are infrared pictures that different?

When you first look at a monochrome photo that is taken with an infrared camera filter it might look almost identical to every other black and white picture. If you look closely you will begin to see the differences such as the objects which are bright in the visible light will appear dark while some of the things that are normally dark will be given a fair glowing light.

The reason for this is simple and can be explained if you look at a graph showing the fraction of light reflected off the different materials at the different wavelengths. The actual height of the curves will show how bright every material is in a visible light while another curve will tell you how bright they are in infrared.

The biggest difference between the infrared spectrum and the visible spectrum is in the case of foliage. Foliage becomes very bright in infrared as you will be able to see if you have ever taken infrared pictures before.

Pictures that are in infrared will show quite an unusual tonality that is different than that which we are used to seeing. This effect will make them very pleasing to the eye in most (if not all) cases. This will naturally be a debate about taste that we do not need to enter into.

The digital camera

To start with you will need a digital camera. Most digital cameras today have a special infrared filter blocking in front of the light sensitive CCD array as the infrared light degrades the visible light color rendition. Depending on the camera there is a difference in how much of infrared the filter will let through.

Some of the early models, like the venerable Olympus C-2000Z/C-2020Z and Nikon 950 are very permissive here, while the more recent models let just enough of infrared light through to be suitable for infrared photography. While most of these require a really long exposure they also offer a solution for a workaround. You must remember that the camera makers do everything they can to stop the infrared from reaching the sensor.
